Daffron Summer School Drive for Kindergarten 

Thanks for supporting the Daffron Summer School Drive for Kindergarten! Donation boxes will be out this week at the main entrances if you are still interested in donating. Daffron is hosting Summer School for incoming Kindergarten students; STOP students and Mission Possible Kids students are working together to collect supplies and clothing for Daffron.

New or used supplies needed for the classroom include the following:

  • Crayons
  • Glue/Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pencils
  • Kleenex
  • Wipes
  • Collage Materials
  • Paper
  • Construction Paper - white/manila
  • Markers (all kinds)
  • Erasers
  • Paint (water colors and tempera)
  • Ziploc Bags
  • Sensory Materials (unopened) - e.g., beans, rice noodles

Nurse Christy needs the following clothing for the girls and boys:

  • New or used pants (sizes 4-8)
  • New or used shorts (sizes 4-8)
  • New underwear (sizes 4-8)
  • Socks

2016 Bond Election (May 7, 2016)

(Early voting is scheduled April 25-30 and May 2-3.)

Plano ISD community members are invited to attend any of the informational meetings to be hosted this spring about PISD's May 7 bond election proposal. Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian Binggeli, will present information and answer questions. Meetings will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM at the district's high schools on the following dates:

  • April 25 (Monday) - Vines High School (presentation room), 1401 Highedge Drive, Plano, TX 75075
  • April 28 (Thursday) - Shepton High School (library), 5505 Plano Parkway, Plano, TX 75093

On May 7, 2016, Plano ISD voters will decide on a $481 million bond proposal to fund initiatives recommended by the Plano ISD Facilities and Technology Task Force. Appointed in August, 2015 by the Plano ISD Board of Trustees, the task force was comprised of citizens, business leaders, teachers, and parents. During several meetings conducted this school year, the task force reviewed enrollment trends and projections, established construction and renovation needs, and validated costs before making recommendations to the school board. On February 2, trustees approved the order calling for the May 7 bond election.   

 

Collin County voters residing within the Plano ISD attendance zone will be asked to consider a single proposition to provide $481 million toward eight major project areas with no increase to the tax rate. If approved, all Plano ISD campuses will benefit from district-wide security updates, renovations, and facility upgrades, as well as technology improvements. Reroofing projects and construction of permanent classroom space to replace portables will be funded from a combination of surplus funds generated through the 2013 Tax Ratification Election (TRE) and unissued bond funds from the 2008 bond program. The bond includes major renovations at Robinson Middle School and construction of a Performing Arts and Multipurpose Facility. Daffron Senior Reception and Scholarship 

The Daffron PTA invites former Daffron students from the Class of 2016 to celebrate their graduation by visiting with old friends and former teachers at Daffron. Please join us on Wednesday, May 11 from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at the Daffron Elementary School Library. Please select the graduation cap to see the invitation.

Thanks to the former Daffron students who submitted scholarship applications. The winner will be announced at the Senior Reception.

 Buy a Brick Fundraiser (Deadline May 16, 2016)  

The Buy a Brick Fundraiser is back. Create a lasting legacy while supporting Daffron Elementary PTA. The Daffron PTA is selling commemorative brick pavers that will be installed at Daffron. Each 4"X8" brick paver can be personalized with up to three lines containing 18 characters per line. This fundraiser is open to Daffron families, Daffron alumni, teachers, and staff. The cost of the brick is $100 and that includes personalization, delivery to the school, and installation. With a brick purchase, you can also purchase a souvenir brick for $25 or a donor certificate for $10. You can make a payment via cash, a check payable to Daffron PTA, or credit through PayPal. If you pay by cash at the payment screen, put the word "CASH" into the blank that reads "Check #". Any cash and check payments must be placed in the PTA mailbox in the Daffron office. Field Day (Thursday, May 19, 2016)

Field Day is a fun-filled day for the children at Daffron Elementary! Games begin at 8:30 AM for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. 3rd through 5th Grade will begin at noon. Field Day fosters cooperation, skill development, decision making, and sportsmanship. Activities vary in format and reinforce sports skills learned during the year. Some activities will also purely be recreational. The kids will have a blast!

 

For Field Day to be successful, we need a lot of volunteers! Please remember, you must have completed the PISD Volunteer Application to help. Daffron Jogging Club for 2nd-5th Grade

Monday through Friday starting March 14, 2016

7:10-7:30 AM

Preston Meadow Park Pavilion

The Daffron 2nd through 5th Grade students are participating in four marathons this year. If you want to win marathon prizes, then here is a great way to get your marathon miles in with the Daffron coaches. This is optional.

  • If you drop off between 7:00-7:10, take your child to the gym. If you drop off after 7:10, you can drop off your child at the pavilion. Students will not be allowed to walk from the gym to the pavilion by themselves.
  • Students should check in with the coach and place their backpacks on the tables in the pavilion. At 7:30, the students will walk to the building with the coach.
  • If there is no coach or the weather is bad, there will be no running. Please go to the gym.

Corporate Partnerships - Earn Cash for Our School!       

Here are a few simple things you can do to support your school. Please select the Box Tops logo for additional information and the necessary forms.

  • Box Tops for Education Program - Collect Box Tops from participating products and submit them online or turn them into the Daffron PTA mailbox in the school office. Look for special contests twice a year to win prizes for your child's classroom.
  • Target Take Charge Education Program - Go to www.target.com/tcoe or call 800.316.6142 to designate Daffron, then use your REDcard whenever you shop. Target will donate up to 1% of the purchases to Daffron.
  • Good Neighbor Program at Tom Thumb - Fill out the Good Neighbor Program form and bring it to your Tom Thumb store. 1% of any purchase made with your Rewards card will go to Daffron PTA. Be sure to give them our ID #6135.
  • Community Rewards at Kroger - Shop at Kroger with your card, and Kroger will send money to our school. To get your account set up, go to this link: https://www.kroger.com/account/enrollCommunityRewardsNow. Our ID is #83351, or you can type in our school name.
  • Amazon Prime Smile - If you are already an Amazon Prime member (or want to become one), go to smile.amazon.com. When you are asked to elect the organization you want to support, type in Daffron. Going forward, .5% of the sale price will be donated to  our school.

World Wear Project  

Daffron Elementary PTA has partnered with the World Wear Project in a new fundraising effort. The goal is to make gently worn clothing and shoes affordable and available to people domestically and internationally who might otherwise be unable to afford new clothing. A shoe and clothing donation bin is located in the main Daffron parking lot near the basketball courts. Proceeds will benefit Daffron Elementary PTA. 

  • Students and parents are invited to contribute used shoes, clothing, belts, hats, purses, wallets, backpacks, hard toys, stuffed animals, pots, and pans for collection.
  • World Wear can NOT accept furniture, knives, kitchen appliances, appliances with cords or items made of glass.

Calling all Mentors! If you are interested in mentoring students, WE NEED YOU! Parents, Grandparents, and community workers are all welcome! Mentors are asked to meet with their students two to four times a month either before school or at lunch. We will provide you with direction, ideas, and activities.
